Note the word buy, singular. The shops have left me a bit cold this month. It’s a tricky time for smart shopping: the weather in Dubai is divine and I am happiest in jeans (J Brand ‘Maude’) and a tee (Rag & Bone ‘Vee’). Just because it’s dipped under 25 degrees, the temptation to stock up on jumpers and boots needs to be resisted because, like Season 8 of Game of Thrones (April, people!), summer is coming and anything that isn’t as lightweight and breezy as an episode of Love Island will feel like an affront to our very existence.
That said, I was wooed by this polka dot number from Next (a steal at Dhs137), which delivers to the UAE in just a few days and fo’ frizzle. I think it was the lingering memory of that Alessandra Rich dress which stole the show at the royal wedding last year that did it. Either way, I was overcome by an urge to go all Yayoi Kusama. The kids, less attuned to the best-dressed guests at Harry and Meghan’s nuptials or conceptual Japanese art, think that I look like a Dalmatian. Tough crowd.
